If you’re scheduled for hip or knee replacement, we’ll make sure you’re in the know every step of the way. We will make time to answer your questions and explain everything to you throughout the process, so you’ll have greater peace of mind before, during and after your procedure.

Initial hip or knee evaluation

During your first appointment, we’ll work with you to build a personalized treatment plan. This will include:

Evaluating the affected joint and how it impacts your overall quality of life.
Reviewing and discussing your general health, along with any previous treatments or evaluations for joint pain/related conditions.
Taking X-rays, if needed, as well as ordering any additional testing.

Before surgery

Preparing for your surgery is perhaps the most important step for ensuring an optimal outcome. This process will include:

If necessary, setting and achieving specific health goals to reduce the potential for complications, such as losing weight, quitting smoking and/or controlling blood sugar.
Enrolling in RecoveryCOACH^TM, an online guide that will provide key information and timeliness regarding your surgical experience.
Connecting with the joint replacement nurse navigator at Holland Hospital to ensure you have the best possible surgical experience and recovery at home.

After surgery

Facing or recovering from joint replacement surgery shouldn’t feel overwhelming. With RecoveryCOACH^TM, you’ll feel more informed and more reassured every step of the way.

Think of RecoveryCOACH^TM as a personal, interactive coach available before, during and after your surgery. Once your surgery is scheduled, we will automatically enroll you. From any computer or smartphone, this easy-to-use app will enable you to:

Receive information at the right time, when you need it most
Share with family members, so they can support you
Allow your health care provider to keep a virtual eye on you
Communicate how prepared you are feeling and how you are progressing with your recovery
Review educational materials prior to surgery, such as how to prepare your home for recovery
Understand what to expect after surgery and manage your recovery with exercises and self care
